Research:
Candidates explore, evaluate, synthesize, and apply methods of inquiry to enhance learning and improve performance.
5.1 Theoretical Foundations. Candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge of the contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and technology.
Through the coursework of the master's program I have demonstrated foundational knowledge of the contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and technology. This portfolio demonstrates my learning and application through the various performances.
5.2 Method. Candidates apply research methodologies to solve problems and enhance practice.
As evident through the Action Research Project, the cognitive theory of multimedia learning was used to increase student understanding of the science standards surrounding earth materials. After implementing the Instructional Design project, which was developed grounded in the theory of multimedia learning, compared to the state provided science unit addressing the same standards, 95% of students enhanced their learning and knowledge base on the topic.
5.3 Assessing/Evaluating. Candidates apply formal inquiry strategies in assessing and evaluating processes and resources for learning and performance.
When implementing the Action Research Project, the process of inquiry was carried out to assess the effectiveness of the Instructional Design project and the cognitive theory of multimedia learning. A pre-assessment was administered to students after lessons/parts from the state prescribed Earth materials science kit, but prior to the implementation of the Instructional Design project. Then the instructional unit was taught, and the post-assessment was administered following the instruction to see if the unit developed upon multimedia learning was more effective in helping the students to learn and remember more of the information.
5.4 Ethics. Candidates conduct research and practice using accepted professional and institutional guidelines and procedures.
The Action Research Project was implemented in accordance with University of Delaware, as well as Red Clay Consolidated School District's guidelines and procedures.
